Montgomery City Public Library Receives Grant for 2026 Summer Reading Program

The Montgomery City Public Library (MCPL) is pleased to announce it has received a $5,952 summer library grant to support presenters, programs, and supplies for its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story.” This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

From June 1 through July 31, MCPL will host a wide variety of engaging programs for children, teens, and adults. This year’s theme, “Unearth a Story,” invites participants to explore the worlds of dinosaurs, fossils, gemstones, archaeology, and more.  All summer reading programs are free and do not require a library card.

The program will kick off on June 1 with a celebration of National Dinosaur Day. Throughout the summer, patrons can enjoy a diverse lineup of activities, including Pastiche Night, movie nights, and hands-on crafts.  Children’s programs will be held twice monthly on Mondays, with sessions at 10:00 a.m. for preschoolers and 2:00 p.m. for school-aged children.

In addition to these regular offerings, MCPL will feature several special guest presenters. E3 Dinosaur Encounters will visit on June 10, Chef Bananas will perform on June 17, and Reading Rita will appear on July 10. Mark your calendars for these family-friendly events.

Additional highlights include a program with Ethan Regan of the Department of Conservation, an adult tea party, and a festive “Christmas in July” celebration.

More details about the Montgomery City Public Library’s “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Program will be announced soon. MCPL invites community members of all ages to join in a summer of discovery, learning, and fun.
