Director's Message

Welcome to Montgomery City Public Library!

Welcome to your Montgomery City Public Library!  Our mission is to create an environment for lifelong learning and personal growth to meet the needs of our diverse community.  It is my pleasure to invite you to see everything that Montgomery City Public Library has to offer.

Whether you love to read, study, work, or play, there is something available at the Montgomery City Public Library for everyone!  In its almost 25,000-item collection, MCPL has books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks on CD, games, puzzles, kits, fishing poles, and reference materials.  E-books and e-audiobooks are available through the Libby and Axis 360/Boundless apps.  MCPL is a member of the Missouri Evergreen consortium, consisting of 60+ member libraries, with access to over 4 million items through interlibrary loans.  There are quiet and cozy spaces for meetings and studying.  The wonderful children’s department has creative and hands-on toys where children can learn through play.  Computers and free Wi-Fi are also available.

There is a variety of weekly, monthly, and special programs for all ages hosted by the Montgomery City Public Library.  These events are free and do not require a library card to attend.  Story Time Adventures meets weekly for reading, rhyming, singing, talking, and playing with early literacy skills for baby-preschool children and their caregivers.  Monthly programs include Robotics classes, Lego Club, After Hours Teen Night, Books and Beyond, Needle Arts Gathering, two book clubs, Coloring Club, Adults Arts and Crafts, and Homeschool Movie Days.  Movie nights are scheduled throughout the year, as are Community Reads and Conversations, which are based on issues faced in Montgomery County. One-on-one technology help is also available.

Have you checked out the Creation Station yet?  This is a unique feature of MCPL, in which patrons can explore their creativity, develop hobbies, learn life skills, and even promote their own businesses.  You can sew a new frock or mend a beloved garment on the Janome Sewing Machine.  You can express your creativity using the Cricut cutting machines, heat press, or the design computer with Adobe Creative Cloud Software.  Other digital items available through the Creation Station include a Canon Rebel camera, a green screen, and a photo/slide scanner.  You can visit faraway places or immerse yourself in an exciting game through our virtual reality system.  Call 573-564-8022 to schedule free training on each of these items.

The Library of Things is another distinctive feature to MCPL.  You can check out items that are not usual fare in a library.  Some items include fishing poles, puzzles, a telescope, two microscopes, and a metal detector.  STEAM to Go kits for children and Memories Matter kits for senior adults are also available for checkout.  Party games, a photo scanner, a movie projector and screen, and an ice cream maker ball are other interesting items in the Library of Things.

As you can see, MCPL is more than books.  We are a community center where everyone is welcome.  Stop by the Montgomery City Public Library for a tour, to check out some items, read a newspaper, enjoy a cup of coffee, visit the Creation Station, or just say hi.  Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are here to help you.

I welcome your ideas and comments on how the Montgomery City Public Library can be relevant to your life and your community.  The more input from our patrons and community members, the better the library can meet the needs of our growing and diverse community.
