MCPL Receives 2022-2023 Technology Mini Grant
The Montgomery City Public Library Receives a $12,477.00 grant from the Missouri State Library
A $12,477.00 grant will help keep the momentum going at the Montgomery City Public Library. This new grant will enable the library to purchase more items for the Creation Station, the Library of Things, and other library services. This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
Last year MCPL established a Creation Station Maker Space and a Library of Things with great excitement. Both have been a hit with patrons. The Creation Station includes Cricut cutting machines, a heat press, a virtual reality system, a digital camera, a design computer, a Promethean smart board, a sewing machine, and a photo scanner. The Library of Things includes a portable photo scanner, a portable projector and screen, giant family games like Jenga and Candyland, STEAM kits for children, fishing poles, an ice cream maker ball, crocheting and knitting needles, and puzzles.
New items purchased with grant money to be included with the Creation Station and the Library of Things will include another Cricut Maker 3 machine, a Cricut mug press, a laminator, a digital telescope, a digital microscope, a Go Pro camera, and a metal detector. Patrons expressed interest in these items through surveys and conversations.
New computers and robotics will also be purchased to update the ones the library currently has. Seven new Dell desktop computers will replace the current ones used by patrons. A new After-School Edge AWE computer, specifically designed for elementary school children, will be added to the children’s department. The Robotics classes will receive new six Sphero Spk+ robots, five Dot robots, three new Dash robots, and one Cue robot.
Gaylee Harris, director of the Montgomery City Public Library, expressed, “Our library is very fortunate to receive this grant! It will enable MCPL to offer many items and opportunities for people in Montgomery City and County to try new things, be creative, and connect with others. I hope everyone will stop by the library and check out these new additions!”
